The essentials for recalling health to the mind are: having faith, expressing gratitude, learning to love and acknowledging the unity of mankind. All the rest of the information presented here are merely details.
Be Happy Always: Happiness, as you know, is a spiritual state; it is a spiritual attribute. And this injunction to be happy always is a tall order to fill, and one might not even venture to make an attempt at achieving it if the command had not come directly from the Master’s lips. Check out these “Laws of the Universe” to see if they help you build a foundation for happiness. Other free Ebooks which help you develop a happy frame of mind are posted in our recommended products near the end of this Guide.
Guard Your Mental Health: learn to do this by finding stress busters such as meditation, yoga or other rest and relaxation techniques that work for you, and then practice them daily and consistently. Mental health or lack thereof can and does have an effect on the physical body.
· Attitude is almost everything. It can explain why a man thinks of suicide as a way out of a mess one night, and after having made it through the night, he awakens to the sunshine in his face and contemplates that he will place all of his trust in God and feels 100% better. His situation did not change, but his attitude and perspective did. Learn to cultivate a positive attitude, one which allows you to hand your problems over to a higher being when you can no longer manage the load yourself. It is the smart wo/man who knows when things are out of her/his control and lets go and lets God.
· Character: possessing a noble character is your birthright. The Prophet said: “Noble have I created thee, yet thou hast abased thyself. Rise then unto that for which thou wast created.” If your inner character will not win Tony Awards, then you can begin to change it by changing your habits. And because the word of God has creative power, the quickest way to change your character is to “immerse yourself in the Ocean of His Words,” (i.e. try reading the Holy Books associated with your faith or other faiths).
· Discipline: defined as training, especially training of the mind or character. Without a measure of discipline, one is hard pressed to “refuse the dictates of your evil passions and corrupt desires” which we have been commanded by God to subdue.
· Family, friendship, relationships: No man is an island. No man stands alone, said John Donne. And it is true. We are social creatures and families represent a microcosm of society as a whole, and to the extent that there is peace, unity and love in the home, these attributes extend out to the larger world. The role of each member of the family unit is complementary. Read more about how to create successful families here, or about the advancement of women here.
· Fidelity: Practice celibacy and abstinence outside of marriage, and fidelity inside of the marital union. Whether you are religious or not, doing this will reduce your exposure to emotional turmoil as well as to communicable sexually transmitted diseases.
· Forgiveness: the Prophet Bahá'u'lláh tells us that if someone commits a wrong toward us, we should instantly forgive him, and His daughter goes on to say that we should even try not to take offense or perceive the actions of others as being against us. Jesus Christ spoke of turning the other cheek and offering it to your oppressor should he wrong you once. And that we should have no limit on the amount of times we forgive. Forgiveness has so many regenerative and healing powers that it should be bottled and given away to all who hurt, to all who have suffered at the hands of a friend or foe. When your emotions hurt, forgiveness must become your drug of choice if you desire rapid and sustained healing.
