Sometimes you may have to adjust or bend some of the Recalling Health rules in this Guide to get a perfect fit.
For example, in the nutrition arena, if you are currently a “meat and potatoes” man, try having your steak with a fresh green salad instead of with potatoes or carbs. By doing this simple act, you have eliminated the cooked starch from that meal, while at the same time you have made a meal that will not require enzymes to be secreted for digestion that are in opposition to one another.
And, no, you do not need to understand always the why of the recommendations put forth in this small Guide, though understanding is helpful. But what you do need is to trust the information enough to be willing to give it a try.
Implement some of the ideas, concepts and food changes into your own life and then make your own judgment as to whether it makes you feel healthier, wealthier and wise, or whether it steals energy from your body.
Before reading Fit for Life, a book by Harvey and Marilyn Diamond, I used to be sick after most meals, especially dinner. I would eat, then my stomach would turn sour, then I would regurgitate my meal, involuntarily. I never knew why this was so, and even wondered if other people experienced this. But, by learning one simple principle contained in that book, i.e. not combining fruit with a meal, it changed my life.
You see, unwittingly, I had been drinking fruit juices with my meal or having fresh fruit or melon with my meals. This combination generally caused food in my stomach to ferment, to sour upon impact. The exception to this seemed to be ingesting apple juice and pineapple juice which did not have such an effect.
I tell this story only to demonstrate that it is the little things that we learn that can make a major change in our world. So I caution you to never think you know everything. Always be willing to learn and to try out new things.
If history is any indication, we know that most of what we “know” and believe today will turn out to be so much folly and foe tomorrow.
